Here are some of the excerpts from the plan for artists in WNC:
The first goal, Bolster North Carolina’s Arts and Cultural Sector, focuses on support for arts organizations and artists, primarily through grants and professional growth opportunities. Updating processes for the Grassroots Arts Program, developing training workshops for arts leaders, and establishing an artist mentorship program are among the strategies for this goal. One of the more aspirational objectives addresses the need for arts facilities in the state. The Arts Council will explore models such as capital building and renovation funds and local studio rental subsidy programs.
Our fifth goal is Rebuild Western North Carolina’s Creative Sector after Hurricane Helene. The road to recovery for this region will be long. We are committed to being a part of the rebuilding process for the arts in the region impacted by the storm. Because of that commitment, we will collaborate to provide urgent disaster relief funding from private and public sources to western North Carolina’s artists and arts organizations impacted by Hurricane Helene. We are working and will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners to develop a long-term plan to rebuild the region’s arts infrastructure in new and innovative ways that will focus on the creative economy, cultural tourism, and artist opportunities for public works. We recognize the widespread mental health needs of the region due to loss and change because of the storm, so we will invest in arts programs designed to address these needs.
